Nile Swimmers
For the Nubian immigrants, swimming on the Nile River was a regular daily activity to the point that it wasn’t considered a sport at all. And so as everyone immersed into the American culture lifestyle, most people didn’t even consider swimming. And for those who did and attempted heading down to the swimming pools, the coed swimming was for most an obstacle of practicing their Islamic faith.
And so noticing that need, we established the NUBIA Nile Swimmers program as one of our first programs in collaboration with both the Charlestown Community and the Madison Park Community Centers. Working with the City Hall of Boston, both centers have been very instrumental and welcoming to both our Mens and Ladies only summer swimming programs.
